Kazakhstan's uranium production down

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 4

By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

Uranium production by Kazakhstan’s Kazatomprom National Atomic Company amounted to 5,221 tons of product during 1Q2020 compared to 5,294 tons in 1Q2019, Trend reports with reference to the report of the company.

Furthermore, sales volume of the company equaled 1,754 tons of uranium in 1Q2020 compared to 1,645 tons in 1Q2019.

Average realized price was $26.43 per pound during 1Q2020 compared to $26.78 per pound in 1Q2019.

The company said that the decline in production is mainly due to the smaller share received from the production of Inkai JV in 1Q2020.

In turn, the sales volumes were slightly higher in the 1Q2020 than in 1Q2019, mainly due to delivery times planned by the customer.

Kazatomprom is the world's largest producer of uranium, with the company’s attributable production representing approximately 23 percent of global primary uranium production in 2018.

The company benefits from the largest reserve base in the industry and operates, through its subsidiaries, JVs and Associates, 26 deposits grouped into 13 mining assets. All of the company’s mining operations are located in Kazakhstan.
