Georgian peaches to appear on Russian shelves soon

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 3

By Tamilla Mammadova - Trend:

Georgian peaches will appear on Russian shelves in June, Trend reports citing Georgian media.

The head of the export company in Georgia Levan Benashvili said that the coronavirus will not hinder the supply of fruits to Russia. Agreements have already been drawn up with Russian companies for the export of 3,000 tons of peaches.

"The peach season is beginning, and we are preparing for export. In about 20 days, we will begin receiving and processing peaches and nectarines and sending them to Russia," he said.

Benashvili added that there will probably be even more new contracts, as the pandemic does not yet threaten the fruit export sector.

In 2019, Georgia exported more than 80 percent of peaches and nectarines. Of these, more than 10,000 tons were shipped to Russia.
