The officials of the Georgia's Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture held a meeting with the exporters and heads of peach processing enterprises in Gurjaani Municipality to discuss issues of harvesting, storing and selling of peaches in an organized manner, Trend reports referring to the ministry.
Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Solomon Pavliashvili along with the State Representative in Kakheti region Irakli Kadagishvili visited a distribution center in the village Chumlaki, Gurjaani Municipality, which was opened to ensure the safe and uninterrupted export of peaches amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.
"This year, we are expecting an abundant harvest of peaches, which will reach about 35,000 tons. Some 20 refrigerators will operate during the season. Due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, we have selected a location in the village Chumlaki, whereby trucks will be loaded with export products,” said Pavliashvili.
According to Pavliashvili, considering the epidemiological situation, the farmers, producers and exporters shall follow safety rules to avoid and prevent the spread of the virus. The government will make endeavors to help farmers not to face problems in selling their products
Kadagishvili noted, that the will work in the current epidemiological situation to deal with the harvesting and storing of peach crop related issues in Gurjaani Municipality.
The Head of the National Food Agency Zurab Chekurashvili also attended the working meeting.
