Iran issues licenses for commissioning copper mines

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 11

Licenses have been issued for the commissioning of 12 copper mines in Sistan and Baluchestan Province (southeastern Iran), said Chairman of the Industry, Mine and Trade Organization of the province Mahmoud Reza Rahmatian, Trend reports citing the organization’s official website.

According to Rahmatian, the copper reserves of these mines exceed more than 18 million tons.

Rahmatian added that with commissioning of these mines, 260 people were provided with jobs.

The chairman said that a plant of Giti Mehr Roshana Company is under construction in Nosratabad Industrial Zone of Zahedan county. The plant will produce 1,000 tons of copper powder and 70 tons of copper cathode per year.

The official noted that 350 billion rials (about $8.33 million) have been invested in the construction of the plant and 184 people will be employed after its commissioning.

Iran's Sistan and Baluchestan province has a total of 1.1 billion tons of mining reserves. About 762 million tons of it are being extracted and licenses were issued to extract 362 million tons of reserves.
