Iran plans to manufacture 1.2 million cars in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020), Iran's Acting Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Hossein Modarres Khiabani told IRIB, Trend reports.
According to Modarres Khiabani, when South Korean and French carmakers left Iran in 2018, no one thought the Iranian automotive industry could manufacture that many cars.
Modarres Khiabani added that car manufacturing increased by 18 percent in the first two months of the current Iranian year (March 20 - May 20, 2020) compared to the same period last Iranian year.
The acting minister said that along with car manufacturing, the focus is on improving its quality.
More than 101,000 cars were manufactured in Iran in two months. More than 51,700 of these cars were manufactured by Iran Khodro and more than 44,500 by Saipa carmakers.
