More than 870 billion rials (about $20.7 million) in funds were spent on agricultural machinery in the Ardabil Province (northwestern Iran) in the last Iranian year (March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020), Director of the Agriculture Department of Ardabil Province Khalil Nikshad told IRNA, Trend reports.
The director stressed that however, the province's agricultural sector was expected to spend 420 billion rials (about $10 million) on machinery in the last year.
The director added that Ardabil Province ranks third in Iran in the area of agricultural machinery and a 148 percent increase was recorded in this area in the province.
Nikshad said that modern irrigation systems are growing in the province every year, and this year the goal is to increase the area equipped with these systems to 12,000 hectares.
“As many as 2 trillion rials (about $47.6 million) in funds have been allocated for the development of pressure irrigation systems in Ardabil Province. It is possible to increase the agricultural production of the province by saving water consumption and using modern irrigation systems,” he said.
Due to the high quality of the province’s areas, it is possible to harvest more than 12 tons of wheat per hectare. This has no analogues not only in Iran, but also in the world.
