The volume of products transited through Iran decreased by 30 percent in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020) compared to the preceding Iranian year (March 21, 2018 to March 21, 2019), Head of Commercialization Department at the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development of Iran Amin Tarafo said, Trend reports citing the ministry.
According to Tarafo, 7.6 million tons of products were transited through the country n in the last Iranian year, while 10.4 million tons of products were transited during the preceding Iranian year.
The official said that a number of programs are planned to increase the transit operations.
"Transit is one of the most important means of establishing economic ties with neighboring countries, and Iran's geographical position is an advantage," he said.
He added that Iran shall develop transit despite difficult conditions due to the coronavirus crisis, during which Iran's trade relations with some of its neighbors nearly stopped.
