Azerbaijan launches new project in livestock sector

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 6

By Fidan Babayeva – Trend:

The Azerbaijani Scientific-Research Institute of Animal Husbandry and the Artificial Insemination Center have launched a new pilot project to develop livestock in the country, Director of the Artificial Insemination Center Elton Abdurakhmanov told Trend.

“A Schwyz calf weighing 42 kilograms was born within the project on June 30, 2020,” director of the center said.

"The cattle semen obtained by the Center makes it possible to breed highly productive species at the pilot farm of the Scientific-Research Institute of Animal Husbandry," director of the center said.

Abdurakhmanov added that this project shows that local cattle semen may increase productivity by preserving the breed of animals.

The Artificial Insemination Center was established on August 19, 2017. The design and construction of the center in the Goygol district was launched following a corresponding order signed by the president in 2014.

The Center plays an exceptional role in terms of increasing livestock production in the country, ensuring food security in Azerbaijan and accelerating the measures to improve the breeding stock.
