Iran boosts car manufacturing

The vehicles manufacturing in Iran increased by 20.3 percent during first four months of current Iranian year (March 20-July 21, 2020) compared to the same period last Iranian year, said Soheil Memarbashi, general manager of transportation industry at Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade of Iran, Trend reports citing the ministry.

According to Memarbashi, 323,663 vehicles of various type were manufactured during this period compared to 268,966 vehicles supplied during the same period last Iranian year.

He added that 106,018 units of various type of vehicles were manufactured during the fourth month of the current Iranian year (June 21-July 21), showing a 52.8-percent increase compared to the same period of the last Iranian year, when 69,402 cars were manufactured.

Memarbashi noted that the manufacturing of passenger cars increased by 19.4 percent during four months, compared to the same period last Iranian year. About 296,328 passenger cars were produced during this period, while 248,184 passenger cars were manufactured in the same period last Iranian year.

“During the reporting period, 80 vans were manufactured. The production increased by 15.9 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year, during which 69 vans were manufactured," he said.

The official emphasized that a 32.9-percent increase was observed in the manufacturing of pickups in Iran during four months.

In his words, 25,281 pickups were manufactured in four months of current Iranian year compared to 19,020 pickups produced during the same period of last Iranian year.

Memarbashi said that 263 buses were manufactured in Iran compared to 110 buses during four months of 2019, which shows an increase of 139 percent.

“As many as 1,453 trucks and trailers were manufactured during the reporting period, while 1,290 trucks and trailers were produced in the same period last Iranian year, and this is an increase of 12.6 percent,” he said.

According to the official, the production by Iran Khodro and Saipa automakers, Iran's two main manufacturers, increased by 33.6 percent and 7 percent during the four months, respectively.

Iran Khodro produced 160,072, and Saipa - 144,990 cars. The figures stood at 119,845 and 135,515 cars, respectively, for the same period last year.
