Iran purchases additional wheat from farmers

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 22

A total of 8.23 million tons of wheat worth 208 trillion rials (about $4.95 billion) has been purchased from farmers in 31 provinces of Iran from the beginning of the current wheat harvesting season in Iran (April 4) to September 22, Director General of the Internal Procurement Department of the government Trading Corporation (GTC) of Iran Morteza Saadati Kia said, Trend reports citing IRINN.

Saadati Kia emphasized that so far, 196 trillion rials (about $4.66 billion) has been paid to the farmers, which is 94 percent of the total value of the purchased wheat.

The director general added that the amount of money will be paid to the farmers is 12 trillion rials (about $285 million) and will be paid next week.

In addition, 264,000 tons of rapeseed worth 11.8 trillion rials (about $281 million) was purchased from farmers in Iran. The money for the purchased rapeseed was paid to the farmers fully.

The price of ordinary wheat to be purchased from farmers in the current planting year is set at 25,000 rials (about 59 cents), and of durum wheat - at 26,000 rials (about 61 cents) per kilogram in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020). The price of rapeseed is set at 46,600 rials (about $1.1) per kilogram.

A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice, and other products are purchased from farmers by a state company under a guarantee in Iran.
