BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 25

By Jeila Aliyeva - Trend:

It is necessary to expand the area for growing potatoes, vegetables, and other crops, said Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Trend reports with reference to Turkmenistan’s State News Agency.

The president said these words at a meeting of the Halk Maslahaty (People's Council) of Turkmenistan.

Also, the president noted that the country's research institutes should create and regularly introduce high-yielding and disease-resistant varieties of cotton, grain and vegetable crops, fruit trees, as well as develop biotechnological methods for protecting plants and animals.

In general, a lot of work is being done in the country to turn agriculture into a high-tech industry.

Reportedly, agriculture in Turkmenistan is developing rapidly. It is one of the most important sectors of the country's economy. The main types of agricultural crops grown on the territory of Turkmenistan are wheat, cotton, rice, sugar beet, fodder, vegetable, and fruits.

The development of agriculture is carried out on a scientific basis. Various types of agricultural crops are grown taking into account the agro-ecological characteristics of the country's regions.

Special attention is paid to increasing the volume of products in Turkmenistan. As a result, in recent years, the country has increased the production of vegetables and fruit and berries and enlarged the area of perennial plants, vineyards, and greenhouses.
