Trend:

Iraq is likely to unblock Iran's money that would help to reduce the high foreign currency rates in the Islamic Republic, said the Chairman of Iran-Iraq Chamber of Commerce Yahya Ale-Eshagh, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.

"Following the recent negotiations with Iraq, it is possible that the country would unblock Iran's $5 billion worth of assets," said Ale-Eshagh.

"The Iraqi PM has formed a committee to follow up on the issue (of Iran's money) and reach a conclusion," he added.

"The country is in difficult economic situation due to decline of non-oil export caused by COVID-19, so if only Iran's freezed assets worth $80 billion would be unfreezed, it would help solve the foreign currency rate issue," said the official.

"The Iranian Foreign Minister is seriously trying to solve this issue (of Iran's money) in China, and certain results were reached," he said.

"The barter system could reduce the importers demands for foreign currency and would develop export, solve the import problem and manage foreign currency sources," he said.
