Iran reveals value of fishery products exported from Gilan Province

A total of 1 trillion rials (about $23.8 million) worth of fishery products were exported from the Gilan Province (northern Iran) during the first six months of the current Iranian year (March 20-September 21, 2020), Director of the Fisheries Department for Gilan Province, Azim Modabberi said, Trend reports citing the department‘s website.

According to Modabberi, more than 2,650 tons of fishery products were exported from the province to 26 countries during the reporting period.

The director added that the products were mainly exported to Germany, France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Britain, Australia, Iraq, Japan, and other countries.

“The exported fish products were mainly sturgeon grown in fish facilities and other fish, shrimp and canned fish,” he said.

Modabberi noted that Gilan Province is one of the five main provinces of Iran on the cultivation of fish and fishery products.

The director stressed at present, more than 50,000 tons of fish are grown in the province. In this regard, about 10 percent of fish grown in fish facilities in Iran belongs to Gilan Province.
