Meat production in Kazakhstan's Pavlodar region is planned to be ramped up by 10 percent annually, the region’s head Abylkair Skakov said at a briefing in the Central Communications Service, Trend reports citing Central Communication Service of Kazakhstan.

"The agro-industrial complex must be dwelled on separately. Its current share in the region’s GRP makes up 8.8 percent, which is a good indicator for the industrial region, and we see great perspectives for diversifying the economy through the development of agriculture. Growth is mainly observed in three areas of the sector: irrigated agriculture, production of milk, and meat," said Skakov.

According to him, the area of irrigated land in 2020 was increased to 121,000 hectares.

"A positive result of the increase was that the number of crops harvested from 52,000 hectares of irrigated land was the same as that one from 900,000 hectares of non-irrigated land. The difference is 17 times. That is, a further increase in the area of irrigated land will become an impetus for agricultural growth," said the region’s head.

He also spoke about the production of dairy and meat products.

"This year, 7 commercial dairy farms will be commissioned, and another 15 - within 3 years, which, according to our forecasts, will lead to a 60 percent rise in industrial milk production," Skakov noted.

"In 2020, 4,400 heads of cattle (mostly beef) will be imported to the region. Next year, it’s planned to launch a large feedlot for 5,000 heads, and this year the local poultry farm will release the first batch of turkey meat. This is the second such production throughout Kazakhstan. In general, the plans are to increase meat production by 10 percent annually," he concluded.
