Azerbaijan discloses amount of subsidies issued to farmers

Azerbaijani farmers have been paid subsidies of 246 million manat ($144.7 million) in Azerbaijan as of to date, the Ministry of Agriculture told Trend.

According to the ministry, during 2020, in the period when subsidies began to be issued on request through the electronic agricultural information system (EKTIS), the state has paid over 232.92 million manat ($137 million) of sowing-based subsidies to 407,298 farmers.

"Up to 38 farmers received over 1.8 million manat ($1.08 million) of subsidies for re-sowing corn. Over the past period, more than 6.6 million manat ($3.9 million) of subsidies for artificial insemination of cattle were transferred via farm cards to 37,807 farmers, and 22,185 beekeepers received subsidies worth over 5 million manat ($2.9 million)," the ministry said.

Some 19,000 farmers producing cotton, sugar beets, dry and wet tobacco have applied for subsidies. These farmers received a subsidy in the amount of 34 million manat.

Seed growers who applied for subsidies sold 75,000 tons of products. They were allocated a subsidy in the amount of 5.5 million manat ($3.2 million).

Currently, farmers are submitting autumn sowing declarations for 2020 to EKTIS. The sowing and seed subsidies continue to be paid. The Council of Agrarian Subsidies under the Ministry of Agriculture of Azerbaijan has approved the standards for subsidies and quotas for 2021.
