The director general emphasized that the pomegranate is mainly grown in the Fars, Markazi, Razavi Khorasan, Isfahan, Yazd, Semnan, Qom, South Khorasan, Lorestan and Kerman provinces of Iran.

Jalili Moqaddam noted that the main pomegranate producers in the world are India, China, Iran, Turkey, Afghanistan and the United States.

"In total, about 6.5 million tons of pomegranate are harvested annually from 500,000 hectares of land in the world," she said.

Jalili Moqaddam added that while in Iran, 1 million tons of pomegranate is harvested from about 90,000 hectares of land.

According to the director general, as for pomegranate exports, Iran exported 15,600 tons of pomegranate worth $11.4 million in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 21, 2020). However, given that Iran is one of the main producers, it is possible to increase pomegranate exports.
