Iran has engineering and technical capacities to reconstruct the freed areas in Nagorno Karabkh, former Iranian ambassador to Azerbaijan Mohsen Pakayeen told Trend.
"Fast reconstruction of these areas would lead to permanent peace and Armenia will be left disappointed and lose hope of occupying these areas of Azerbaijan again," Pakayeen said.
He pointed out that Iran could play an important role in reconstruction of Karabakh, since Iran is close to Azerbaijan, especially to some liberated areas.
"Iran has technical capacity and sufficient experience in construction, including housing, dams, power plants, roads and bridges, and anything related to reconstruction," he said.
Pakayeen mentioned that Iran already has projects carried out in Central Asia and Caucasus, as well as participated in tenders.
"The other important issue in reconstruction is implementation of agreements for building power plants that would lead to power transmission to areas that are under reconstruction," he said.
"Another topic that was discussed during the 14th Joint Economic Commission of Iran and Azerbaijan was installment and completion of Rasht - Astara railway as an important chain in the International North South Transportation Corridor," he said.
"If the railway is completed as soon as possible, it would be in the interest of the two countries and others as well, including Russia and Georgia," he said.
"In the field of trade, Iran has reached self-sufficiency in production of sanitary items, construction material, agriculture products, and food items and could supply them to Azerbaijan during reconstruction that would be a good field for cooperation," he said.
