Iran reveals details of its imports

Iran imported 28.2 million tons of goods worth $30.6 billion during the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020 through January 20, 2021), Director General of Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), Mehdi Mirashrafi said, Trend reports citing IRICA.

The director general emphasized that the imports decreased by 15.5 percent in terms of value and 2 percent in terms of volume compared to the same period last Iranian year.

He added that Iran imported 2.9 million tons of goods worth $7.9 billion from China, 4.1 million tons worth $7.4 billion from the UAE and 4.1 million tons worth $3.4 billion from Turkey within 10 months.

Mirashrafi said that Iran also imported 1.9 million tons of goods worth $1.8 billion from India and 966,000 tons worth $1.4 billion from Germany over the reporting period.

According to him, in total, Iran imported 13.9 million tons of goods worth $21.9 billion from five countries. These five countries accounted for 71.6 percent of Iran's total imports in terms of value and 49 percent in terms of weight.

The director general noted that 69 percent of Iran's imports were essential products and amounted to 19.5 million tons.

Mirashrafi also stressed that 5.8 million tons of goods were transited through Iran in 10 months, which is a decrease of 9.5 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year.

Iran's foreign trade turnover amounted to about 123 million tons worth $58.7 billion in the 10 months.
