Kazakhstan identifies investment projects pool to be implemented in Almaty

A pool of a total of 201 investment projects worth 4.5 trillion tenge ($10.6 billion) was formed to be implemented in Kazakhstan’s Almaty, Trend reports citing the press office of the government.

The projects pool was formed within the framework of the New Almaty Comprehensive plan for 2020-2024. The topic was discussed during a meeting held within the framework of the working trip of Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Askar Mamin to the Almaty city.

Furthermore, implementation of 92 projects worth 187.9 billion tenge ($446.3 million) will be implemented in Almaty this year within the framework of the same plan.

“The Almaty city takes up a leading position among the regions in terms of socio-economic development, providing one fifth of the country's GDP. The city has a significant potential for further development. It is necessary to provide all conditions for creating new jobs, improving the quality of life and well-being of city residents, developing infrastructure and, in general, the economy of the Almaty agglomeration,” Mamin said.

The volume of industrial production in Almaty increased by 4.6 percent to 1.05 trillion tenge ($2.5 billion) in 2020 as compared to 2019, including the manufacturing industry by 6.9 percent, mechanical engineering by 35.8 percent, pharmaceuticals by 43.5 percent, paper production by 95.6 percent, light industry by five times. Fixed capital investments increased by 17.2 percent to 971.2 billion tenge ($2.3 billion).
