Iran's next year budget depends on tax revenue - Iranian MP

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 20

Trend:

Iranian government anticipated $11 million of taxes in next year's budget bill (starts on March 21, 2021), Iranian Member of Parliament said.

"Despite the clash between Parliament and the government over the budget bill, the next years budget has fewer problems than in previous years and the dependence of the budget on oil has decreased, Iranian MP Ahmad Rastineh said, Trend reports citing IRNA.

He went on to say that the parliament seeks to define new tax bases and remove taxes from the manufacturing sector in next year`s budget bill (starts on March 21, 2021).

Rastineh stated that "The parliament insisted on the unified foreign currency rate."

During the Parliament’s open session on Tuesday, the legislators cast 211 votes for and 28 votes against the bill, while 6 abstained from voting.

Earlier in February, the Parliament rejected the general outlines of the budget bill and the legislators said the government needed to reform the bill and submit it to Parliament again.

The Iranian government has been allowed to maintain a controversially low price for the US dollar in the next fiscal year’s budget.

The official IRNA news agency said a parliamentary committee discussing articles of a draft budget law for the next calendar year starting March 20 had agreed in a Thursday meeting that government would be able to import basic goods at a US dollar price of 42,000 rials.

The decision comes days after the Iranian parliament approved the outlines of the budget bill presented for a second time to the chamber by the government.
