A contract was signed with Iranian local manufacturers for the manufacturing of 1,270 new locomotives and freight wagons in Iran, Deputy Minister for Roads and Urban Development, and the CEO of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (RAI) Saeed Rasouli said, Trend reports citing the ministry.
Rasouli emphasized that 778 wagons and locomotives were manufactured in Iran in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019, through March 19, 2020).
The deputy minister added that the manufacturing of wagons and locomotives is estimated to reach 1,000 units in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2020, through March 20, 2021).
The CEO noted the Iranian local companies, manufacturers, and startups have manufactured more than 4,600 types of spare parts in the railway sector domestically since the beginning of the current Iranian year.
"In addition, work is underway for manufacturing of 1,400 types of spare parts, which are still imported," he said.
