The dates production in Iran amounted to 1.32 million tons in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021), which is an increase of about 700,000-800,000 tons compared to the last Iranian year (March 21, 2019 through March 19, 2020), the secretary of the National Association of Iranian Dates (NIAD), Meqdad Taklouzadeh told the ILNA, Trend reports.
According to the secretary, along with the increase in date production, its quality has also increased.
He added that the increase in dates production in Iran has also had a positive impact on exports. The rising foreign currency prices has also led to an increase in exports of products such as dates.
Taklouzadeh emphasized that Iran has exported annually 210,000-250,000 tons of dates in recent years. While in the current Iranian year, Iran's date exports amounted to about 300,000 tons.
The secretary noted that Iranian dates are exported to 65 countries, including European countries such as Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Asian countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and India, and the CIS countries.
“The price of a kilogram of dates in Iran varies between 140,000 rials (about $3.33) and 230,000 rials (about $5.47),” he said.
