BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 2
Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:
The popularity of Georgian wine in China is growing, said Chinese Ambassador to Georgia Li Yan, speaking about the potential of Georgian products in the Chinese market, Trend reports via Georgian media.
According to her, wines from France, Australia, Spain and other countries still dominate the Chinese market, but Georgian wines have great potential.
“In 2019, 7.09 million bottles of wine were exported from Georgia to China, which is 2 percent more than in the previous year. Georgia has a long history of viticulture and winemaking, and it is truly the "homeland of wine". A good balance between the quality and price of Georgian wine can meet the diverse needs of various consumer groups in China,” the ambassador said.
She also stressed that in recent years, under the influence of the Free Trade Agreement, exports from Georgia to China have increased.
“Exports from Georgia to China in 2018 amounted to $198 million, in 2019 - $227 million, and in 2020 - $476 million,” the ambassador said.
The free trade agreement signed between China and Georgia officially entered into force on January 1, 2018. According to the ambassador, this is the first free trade agreement that China signed with a country in the Eurasian region.
