At the moment, Aluminium of Kazakhstan JSC is searching for promising bauxite deposits, the company told Trend on June 14.
Aluminum of Kazakhstan JSC, part of Eurasian Resources Group (ERG), is an enterprise that extracts bauxite and refractory clays in the Kostanay region, at the deposits of the Krasnooktyabrsk bauxite mining division and the Torgai bauxite mining division.
However, due to economic reasons and the upcoming expiration of the Subsoil Use Contract (in 2022), a decision was made to stop the activity of one of the company's branches - the Torgai bauxite mining division.
Today Torgai bauxite mining division operates as a part of the JSC, however, the production of bauxite and refractory clay has been completely stopped here.
"The work is underway to preserve the assets of the enterprise, power supply, shipments of refractory clay (mined earlier),” the company said. “The conservation, reclamation, and security operations are underway."
The company explained that the issue of closing the Torgau bauxite mining division is pressing for more than one year. The production of bauxite and refractory clays decreased by two times in 2016.
"The closure of the Torgai bauxite mining division is a decision that was made several years ago,” the company stressed. “The measures have been taken systematically to resolve a number of issues since 2016. A roadmap was developed to terminate the operation of the Torgai bauxite mining division. The closure of the Torgai bauxite mining division did not affect the activity of Aluminum Kazakhstan JSC. It works as usual."
The company also stressed that the prospective bauxite deposits are being searched within the strategic projects with the aim of expanding the mineral resource base of Aluminum of Kazakhstan JSC. Today they are all concentrated on the basis of the Krasnooktyabrsk bauxite mining division.
