It is expected that tea leaves harvesting in Iran will increase by 15 percent in the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), compared to the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 21, 2021), the Chairman of Iran Tea Organization, Habib Jahansaz said, Trend reports citing organization.
The chairman said that 145,000 tons of tea leaves are estimated to be harvested in Iran this year.
Jahansaz added that to date, 103,000 tons of tea leaves have been purchased from farmers in Iran's Gilan and Mazandaran Provinces within the current year. About 56,000 tons (55 percent) of it is first grade and 46,000 tons (45 percent) – second grade.
“About 90 percent of tea leaves were harvested in Gilan Province and 10 percent in Mazandaran Province. The value of tea leaves purchased so far amounted to 5.99 trillion rials (about $119 million). Its 4.89 trillion rials (about $116 million) has been paid to farmers,” he said.
According to Jahansaz, the expenses for tea growing per hectare of land in Iran amount to 190-200 million rials (about $4,520-$4,760). If an average of 10 tons of tea is harvested from each hectare of the plantation, the average income of a farmer will amount to 600-700 million rials (about $14,200-$16,600).
As reported, the price of first-grade tea leaves is 66,900 rials (about $1.59), and the second-grade tea leaves is 44,800 rials (about $1.06) in this season.
