Producer Price Index for Industrial Products down in Georgia

The Producer Price Index (PPI) for Industrial Products decreased by 0.3 percent in July 2021 compared to the previous month, while compared to July 2020 the index growth amounted to 15.1 percent, Trend with reference to the report of the National Statistical Office of Georgia.

The prices for products from mining and quarrying decreased by 1.4 percent compared to June 2021, resulting in a -0.09 percentage point contribution to the overall monthly PPI change.

In the same period, the prices for manufactured products increased by 0.7 percent, contributing 0.59 percentage points to the monthly index change. Within the group, a noteworthy price increase was registered for basic metals (3.2 percent).

Besides, the prices decreased for electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning by 6.9 percent, contributing -0.76 percentage points to the monthly index change.

The annual PPI rate was mainly affected by price changes for the following products:

• Products from mining and quarrying: the prices were 0.2 percent lower, contributing -0.11 percentage points to the overall annual index change. Within the group the prices were lower for the subgroup of metal ores (-8.7 percent);

• Manufactured products: the prices increased by 16.7 percent, contributing 13.44 percentage points to the overall annual index growth. There was a notable increase in the prices for the
following subgroups: food products (17.4 percent), printing and recording services (87.6 percent) and basic metals (33.5 percent);

• Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning: the annual price increase amounted to 9.9 percent, which contributed 0.94 percentage points to the annual index growth;

• Water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation services: the annual price increase amounted to 30.1 percent, which contributed 0.83 percentage points to the annual index growth.
