Georgian winemakers to receive significant funds for sale of grapes

The state enterprise of Georgia "Crop Management Company" processed up to 12,000 tons of grapes from August 27 to September 2, t, for the sale of which the winemakers received up to 11 million lari ($3.5 million), Trend reports with reference to the Georgian National Wine Agency.

As reported, the state enterprise "Crop Management Company" continues unhindered reception of hail-damaged grapes at seven locations in Kakheti.

Meanwhile, on August 26, strong hail and wind damaged 4,600 hectares of vineyards in the region. Villages in the municipalities of Gurjaani, Telavi, and Kvareli were particularly affected. Damage varies from 10 to 90 percent of the crop depending on the location.

By the decision of the Georgian government, the purchase cost of the damaged grapes of the "Rkatsiteli" variety will be 0.8 lari (0.26 cents) per kilogram, and for the “Saperavi” variety - 1 lari (32 cents) per kilogram.
