Georgia reveals volume of purchased grapes

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept. 14

Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

In the most important Georgian winemaking region Kakheti wine-making companies have already purchased 40 percent of the harvested grapes as of September 14, Trend reports via the National Wine Agency.

About 10,000 tons of grapes are processed daily in Kakheti, 136 wine-making companies are involved in purchasing grapes from the farmers.

As of September 14, peasants in Kakheti have earned 90 million lari ($28.9 million) from the sale of grapes. About 10,000 peasants and farmers take part in the grape harvest process.

The Georgian government subsidizes the 2021 grape harvest due to an excess grape yield this season and the post-pandemic situation in order to financially support farmers.

All farmers and peasants who harvest at least 100 tons of grapes will receive subsidies.
