Iran to lift ban on Xiaomi phone imports

TEHRAN, Iran, Oct. 14

The Mobile Importers Association of Iran announced that the ban on importing some Xiaomi phone models will be lifted in the coming days after software updates, Trend reports citing ISNA.

Last August, Irans Radio Regulatory Authority announced a ban on the import of some of the Xiaomis handset models.

In September, reports came in that a number of Xiaomi phones that had been imported into certain markets, were no longer working. The company`s spokesperson announced that the phones were remotely locked by Xiaomi in markets like Cuba, Iran, Syria, North Korea, Sudan. Those markets are not allowed to sell Xiaomi phones. However, some people purchase Xiaomi handsets in legal markets and bring them to the banned countries to use.

After several months, the spokesman for the Mobile Importers Association of Iran Mohammad Reza Alian announced the lifting of ban on Xiaomi`s phone imports soon.
