Iran and Turkmenistan are negotiating to expand possibilities of Iranian companies to increase investments in Turkmenistan, secretary of Iranian Technical and Engineering Services Exporters Association Bahman Salehi Javid told Trend.
He said Iranian companies can invest in civil projects in Turkmenistan. In particular, he mentioned construction of power transmission lines, roads to Caspian Sea.
"Projects in Turkmenistan worth about $10 billion and Iranian companies could do them for less cost," he said.
Turkmenistan barters gas with Iran in return for Iranian companies working on civil projects there.
Turkmen Ambassador to Iran Ahmad Ghorbanov recently held talks with Iranian Technical and Engineering Services Exporters Association regarding the work of Iranian companies.
In 2015 Iranian government removed private sector from a contract with Turkmenistan and asked the Turkmen government to sign the contract with Iran's Power Generation, Distribution, and Transmission Company (Tavanir), claiming the contract would bring $5 million worth of revenue for the Turkmen government.
Iran and Turkmenistan have previously held talks on having Iranian companies participate in infrastructure projects in Turkmenistan, however the plans did not materialize at the time.
