Iran Customs Administration talks rejected agricultural products

TEHRAN, Iran, Dec.29

Trend:

Iran has exported more than 6 million tons of agricultural products in the first eight months of the current Iranian year(started March 21, 2021), Iran Customs Administration spokesman told Trend in an interview.

From the following amount 14.300 tons of exported food and agricultural products were rejected that included 11,000 tons returned from Russia and 26 tons of agricultural products returned by Azerbaijan, Rohullah Latifi noted.

Other countries that returned Iran's exports were the UAE, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, and Spain, he explained.

The standards for receiving commodities are different in various countries, and exported products are usually rejected due to the shape or packaging of the commodity and not necessarily for pesticides. Return of Iranian goods was not due to pesticides, Latifi stressed.

About 50 tons of potatoes returned from Uzbekistan due to the weight of soil with potatoes, this problem resolved has been resolved by cooperation between Iran Plant Protection Organization and monitoring institution in Uzbekistan, he explained.

The change of standard in Russia caused the return of Iran exported agricultural products and part of the products were wasted due to transportation in the warm season, Latifi indicated.

Return of commodity does not mean the product would return to Iran. The returned bell peppers from Russia had buyers in Georgia and Ukraine, he noted.

The major part of returned goods will be exported to other countries and part of it will be exported to the first destination after solving the problem, he stressed.

Iran has strict standards, health control, and quarantine in receiving the returned exported products. Iran National Standards Organization, food and drugs administration, and Ministry of Agriculture are responsible for quality control of items entering the country, he said.

Last year more than 100,000 tons of imported corn were rejected by Iran due to strict standards, and third countries purchased the corn.
