Iran proposes to establish committee to expand shipping activity on Caspian Sea

Iran proposes to establish a committee with the participation of representatives of the Economic Cooperation Organization member states, as well as representatives of shipping and shipbuilding companies under the ECO in order to increase services in the Caspian Sea through Ro-Ro ships, Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Rostam Ghasemi said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

He made the remark on February 2, 2022, during the 11th meeting of transport ministers of the ECO member states in a video format.

Iran also wants to accelerate the implementation of the 'Joint ECO Gate' project. The aim is to create conditions for landlocked countries under the ECO to benefit from the ports of other member countries, the minister noted.

Ghasemi also added that Iran proposes to simplify visa rules and abolish visa regime between ECO member states.

According to him, Iran also wants to take the necessary steps to join international transport and customs agreements.

The following ten countries are at present the member states of the ECO: Afghanistan, Republic of Azerbaijan, Islamic Republic of Iran, Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Republic of Tajikistan, Republic of Turkey, Turkmenistan, Republic of Uzbekistan.
