USAID (United States Agency for International Development) supported the sale of Turkmen women artisans’ and handicraft traders’ handmade products on eBay, USAID told Trend.

“To promote exports and help establish new sales channels for Turkmenistan’s handicrafts, from May 2021 to January 2022, USAID through its Future Growth Initiative and a local consulting firm, Orlan, organized the “Handmade Export 2021” program. It supported the sale of women artisans’ and handicraft traders’ handmade products on global e-commerce marketplaces such as eBay,” the agency said.

According to the information, USAID trained 25 women artisans and entrepreneurs and offered consultations in areas such as creating business models, marketing, product design, taxes, logistics, payment systems, and sales analytics.

“Interested participants received assistance with registration on eBay, writing product descriptions, taking professional photographs of products, and keyword selection for search engine optimization of products by buyers,” USAID said.

It is noted that as a result of the program, 16 entrepreneurs opened eBay stores, 123 products worth more than $22,000 were listed on eBay, primarily targeting North American buyers.

“This month, program participants sent a trial shipment from Turkmenistan to Deliverr’s warehouse in the US and expect to see an increase in sales afterwards,” USAID said.
