TEHRAN, Iran, October 18. Director General of the Iranian Heritage Bases Administration in Iran`s Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Hassan Askarpour announced that the over 500,000 handicraft producers in the country need general insurance, Trend reports citing IRNA.
"The plan for employment and support for handicrafts producers in the country is proposed. We are looking for maximum insurance coverage for handicraft producers," said Askarpour.
He stated that the development plans for the handicraft market in the country should be revised.
Iran has a very rich heritage of handicraft manufacturers which includes many products such as Persian carpets, Iranian art, wooden artifacts, etc.
Handicrafts are an extremely important sector for Iran and its people and contribute over 3 percent to the country’s GDP. Iranian carpets are the most popular product in the handicraft industry.
According to reports, currently, Iran exports over $700 million worth of handicrafts in a calendar year, and overall Iran is ranked 30th in the world handicraft exports market.
