Iran keen to increase annual non-oil trade with Uzbekistan to $1B

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 17. Iran intends to increase its non-oil trade turnover with Uzbekistan from about $400 million to $1 billion a year, Chairman of the Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA) Gholam Hossein Shafei said, Trend reports.

He made the remark said at the Iran-Uzbekistan trade forum in Tehran on June 17, 2023.

The chairman noted that it is hoped that the mentioned value will be achieved in the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024).

“Using the existing economic potential of Iran and Uzbekistan, long-term economic relations between the two countries are guaranteed. Undoubtedly, strengthening of necessary development in the fields of cooperation in banking and finance, customs, transport, and preferential trade are needed,” Shafei said.

According to him, the two countries can contribute to increasing the interest of the companies of the two countries in cooperation and improving trade relations.

Meanwhile, Iran's total non-oil trade turnover with Uzbekistan amounted to 445,000 tons worth $362 million in the last Iranian year (March 21, 2022 - March 20, 2023).

This is a decrease of 29.9 percent in value and 42.6 percent in volume compared to the preceding Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022).
