BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 28. Iran is looking for ways to simplify and accelerate its export and transit activities at the Astara border checkpoint, which connects it with Azerbaijan, Trend reports.

A meeting was held in Tehran on December 28, led by Mohammad Rezvanifar, the Director General of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), and Dariush Amani, the head of the Road and Transport Organization of Iran.

The meeting focused on improving trade procedures at the country’s border checkpoints, especially Astara.

It also discussed how to speed up the movement of trucks carrying goods for export and transit from Astara.

A video conference was set up with the Astara customs office, where the progress made in facilitating trade at the Astara border-customs station was reported.

The IRICA latest data shows that Iran exported about 102 million tons of non-oil products worth $36.4 billion in the first 9 months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through December 21, 2023). This represents a 0.68 percent drop in value, but a 26.5 percent rise in volume compared to the same period last year.
