Iranian Gilan Province sees remarkable growth in import

BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 6. Iran’s Gilan Province in the north of the country, has increased non-oil import by 44.3 percent in value and 69.7 percent in volume, during the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through December 21, 2023), compared to the same period last year, Chairman of the Industry, Mine and Trade Organization of Gilan Province Teymour Pour Heydari said, Trend reports.

“In total, 1.96 million tons of goods worth about $1.55 billion were imported to the province for 9 months,” Pour Heydari noted.

He added that the main export items were industrial products (worth $939 million), agricultural products (worth $519 million), minerals (worth $83 million) and petrochemical products (worth $5 million).

The IRICA's latest data shows that Iran’s overall imports stood at 28.7 million tons, worth $48.4 billion, in the first nine months of the current Iranian year, representing a 12.3 percent increase in value and a 7 percent increase in volume compared to the same period last year.

In general, Iran mainly focuses on the import of essential products needed by the country and applies certain restrictions on the import of goods produced domestically.
