BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 25. Iran has the capacity to export 2,000 megawatts of electricity, CEO of Iran's Power Generation, Distribution, and Transmission Company (TAVANIR), Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi said, Trend reports.

Rajabi Mashhadi noted that only 700-800 megawatts of this capacity are currently utilized.

He also suggested that building more renewable energy plants in the country could boost the electricity export by another 1,000 megawatts as an initial measure.

At present, the power generation capacity of all of Iran's power plants, including thermal, hydroelectric, nuclear, renewable, etc., is approximately 91,000 megawatt-hours. Of this, 82 percent is accounted for by the country’s thermal power plants.

Iran aims to produce 30,000 megawatts of electricity from renewable sources by 2026. The country currently has a renewable energy capacity of 1,100 megawatts.
