BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 17. There is a great potential for the export of Azerbaijani tobacco products to Iraq, Executive Director of the Agency for Promotion of Export and Investment (AZPROMO) Yusif Abdullayev told reporters after the Azerbaijan-Iraq business forum in Baku, Trend reports.
“According to Iraq's official statistics, the annual value of tobacco imports is about $300 million. Some Azerbaijani companies have already exported products worth about $1 million to this country, but the potential is great,” Abdullayev said.
He noted that within the business dialogue in Baku on September 17-18, cooperation on the organization of the export of tobacco products was discussed.
Meanwhile, Azerbaijan exported 4,273 tons of tobacco to different customers in the world for seven months of 2024, which is 3.4 times more than the indicator of the same period of 2023.
The revenue from operations amounted to $12 million.
Azerbaijan produced 9.2 billion cigarettes and cigars from January through July 2024 (5.8 percent growth).
Overall, tobacco production in the country for seven months increased 2.6 times to 2,600 tons.
