AZERI GOVERNMENT DETERMINES INFLATION FIGURE FOR 2006

The Azerbaijani government determined inflation figure for 2006. In accordance with forecast, inflation level for 2006 will make up approximately 9%, Avaz Alakbarov, the Finance Minister, told Trend.

The figure is a simple average of inflation figures proposed by different ministries and departments. There were two proposals on inflation figure for 2006: from 5% to 7% and from 10% to 12%.

“9% inflation figure will allow the government to provide economic development of the country,” Alakbarov noted. The government pursues active economic policy leading to growth of budget incomings and population’s money incomings, as money incomings will grow by 27.4% in 2006, average salary - at least by 25%. “Therefore, to forecast a 5-6% inflation for 2006 is unreal,” Alakbarov added.

The Minister also underlined that the inflation figure over 8 months of 2005 is equal to 2.2%, while it will comprise 12% over whole 2005.
