The National Bank of Azerbaijan (NBA) had to speed up receiving of new consignment of old banknotes due to exchange rate falling of dollars in regard to AZM from 17 to18 September. The NBA managed to reach agreement with the Thomas De La Rue Company printing banknotes on delivery on 1 October or 2 weeks earlier.
“The consignment of banknotes must raise the problem," an informed source said. The manat deficit is estimated at 1 trln manats.
“The 17 September crisis was partially provoked by the NBA, which allowed manat to strengthen overly. Dealers held manat to exchange them in late October with more profit. Besides, the NBA reported to banks about limitation of cash issuing to stimulate cashless payment,” the source underlined.
