From early 2005 the total cotton production in Azerbaijan amounted 195,000 tons, or 60,000 tons more as compared 2004. The total area under crop comprises 112,441 hectares, the Agriculture Ministry told Trend.
The forecast on cotton production was at 185,000 tons.
The big crop was observed in the regions Barda, Imishli and Saatly with productivity ranging from 20 to 22.5 centners per hectares.
Cotton is sown in 21 regions of the country, particularly, the economic regions Salyan-Mughan, Karabakh and Shirvan.
The Ministry noted that in 2004 the area under crop was 77,700 hectares, while the harvest comprised 135,000 tons.
