Azeri gov't, World Bank discuss new transport projects

The Cabinet of Ministers hosted discussions with the World Bank (WB) mission with the participation of Deputy Premier Abid Sharifov. The WB mission is led by a specialist on road infrastructure, Olivie Le Ber, new transport projects that the bank is interested to finance.

A government source told Trend during the meeting the WB experts voiced their will to approve $300m for financing the automobile roads with the length of 750km. the new sections that he WB is intended to participate in the financing are the automobile roads from Imayilli to Gara Maryam (between Goychay and Agsu), from Mingachevir to Ismayilli.

The bankers offer the financing of automobile roads of agriculture and regional significance, as well as roads running via Zakatala and Balakan districts.

The Azerbaijani government hailed the WBs will to assist the government in the rehabilitation of automobile roads, while it is yet necessary to design a feasibility study of projects. The Transport Ministry undertook a responsibility to carry out appraisal of projects through foreign consultants.
