Economic Development Minister Says Tariff Council to View Increase in Some Public Utilities Tariffs in   Azerbaijan Next Week

Azerbaijan, Baku/ Trend , corr. I. Khalilova/ The second meeting of the Azerbaijan Tariff Council in 2007 is expected to be held in Baku the next week. The Chairman of the Tariff Council, Economic Development Minister, Heydar Babayev, has said today that the tariffs on eight kinds of public utilities are expected to be changed during the forthcoming meeting of the Council.

Mr. Babayev said that it would be first of all those ones connected with cleaning works (tariffs for garbage collection and utilization), lift use, etc.

"The Tariff Council may take a positive decision, but may not. We have received appeals concerning increasing tariffs on some public utilities. Moreover, all researches and studies for the substantiation of the growth of expenses on these services," added the Minister.

The possible rise in some public utilities will not touch upon electricity.

"The rise in electricity tariffs will not be even viewed. The increase in these tariffs occurred a few month ago. The corresponding analysis has been held by the Tariff Council of the Country, and we have come to a conclusion that these tariffs are still acceptable," considers Mr. Babayev.

Notably, by the last decision made by the Tariff Council on January 6, 2007, tariffs on energy carriers, public utilities (electricity, water, water collection services), service rendered by law enforcement bodies, State Lands and Cartography, as well as transport passenger carriages were increased.
