Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr I. Khalilova / The Council on Tariffs of Azerbaijan has postponed a change in tariffs for public utilities at least until after the sector's reforms, Minister for Economic Development Heydar Babayev said on 17 May.

The management of tariffs for use of elevators, sanitation (refuse collection and utilization), lighting in public places, planting of trees, and other public utilities were discussed during the meeting of the Council held on 14 May.

"The public sector needs reforms and a complex approach. Excluding several new housing estates, the situation in this field in not satisfactory," the minister said. For this reason the tariffs will be raised only at the end after structural reform.

According to the minister, there are different types of reforms. For instance, domestic waste field requires both institutional and service reforms. As for elevators, the property form should be defined. "The Ministry will reconsider the tariffs at least after the reforms," Babayev said.
