Seco to Render Assistance to Azerbaijan in the conduct of Intellectual Property System in line with WTO

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend I.Khalilova / Mahmoud Mamadguliyev the Azerbaijani deputy foreign minister, stated that the Azerbaijan Government plans to define the directions for obtaining technical assurance within the framework of Azerbaijan's entrance to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

In the near future, Swiss State Secretariat on Economic Issues, SECO, is expected to render technical assistance to bring the intellectual property system in line with the WTO standards. It mostly concerns the industrial property - patents and trade marks.

In accordance with the agreement with SECO, technical assistance in this direction will begin in 2007. Initial discussions with the SECO representatives have been held in Baku and they submitted an action plan which envisages the adaptation to protection of intellectual property rights to world standards through analysis of legislation and conduct of training.

Along with Germany, United States and Switzerland, other countries are also interested in assisting Azerbaijan. Possible sphere of cooperation will be determined in future, he added.
