Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend I.Khalilova / Azersu, an Azerbaijani water company, continues insisting on the expansion of the list of districts included in a list of World Band (WB) project on improvement of water supply and sewerage system in small towns in Azerbaijan.
Azersu announced that the list can be expanded by two districts and increased to twenty-two. After the completion of the feasibility study of the project it will be possible to determine exactly the number of districts which will additionally be included in the work. The two districts being considered for inclusion are Shemakha and Khirdalan Districts.
The full feasibility study of the project is developed by the Azerbaijan company, ASPI.
At present, two tenders are held to determine the projection and consultants for technical control.
The total budget of the project and its components were estimated at $310mln, with $230mln of the total to be allocated by the WB and the remaining funds to be allotted by the Azerbaijani government.
Investment and reconstruction of the water supply and sewerage system infrastructure are provided within the framework of the first component. The work will initially be carried out in ten Azerbaijani regions out of the twenty included in the project: Agstafa, Bilasuvar, Geranboy, Gabala, Guba, Saatli, Oghuz, Khanlar, Tovuz, Zagatala, Hajigabul, Gazakh, Gakh, Mingachevir, Sabirabad, Samukh, Shamkir, Ter-Ter as well as Sharur and Babak, the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
The second component provides for technical aid for developing a General Plan on Development of Baku City and Absheron Peninsula Water Supply. The third component includes upgrade of Azersu joint stock company. International standards of financial accounting will be introduced and the billing system will be improved.
The implementation of the project will be completed by 2012.
