Caspian region is important for EU: Estonian President
Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 8 / Trend , E.Tariverdiyeva/
"The Caspian region is one of the main resources that the European Union has for the diversification of energy supplies," Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves said in his interview with Trend .
"In order to discuss the realisation of projects connected to the Caspian region, the Presidency of the European Union intends to organise an EU summit meeting with the producer and transit states (the EU Southern Corridor Summit)" said the Estonian President who joined a declaration of the Baku energy summit held in Azerbaijan in November.
Ilves said that although the projects of oil and gas supplies to the European Union, such as the Nabucco gas pipeline or the Odessa-Brody-Plock-Gdansk oil pipeline are not going to supply Estonia, these projects are important for ensuring the energy security of the entire European Union.
"Therefore they are a priority also for Estonia," Ilves said.
