Giant Azeri power producer issues tender to reconstruct cascade of hydro power station

Azerenergy - huge power producer of Azerbaijan - announced a tender to project, produce, provide, install, test and put into exploitation equipments necessary for reconstruction of cascade of the Mingachevir power station (Mingachevir Hydro Power Station and Varvar Hydro Power Station). Work will be conducted through loans of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB).

The project comprises reconstruction of two 70MW hydraulic units and 110, 220 and 330kV substations for the Mingachevir Hydro Power Station, construction of a new management centre, installation of facilities, reconstruction of three 5MW hydraulic units and 35kV substations for the Varvar Hydro Power Station, repair-restoration work at hydrotechnical facilities, creation of control-registration system, as well as reconstruction of communication system at both power stations.

It is necessary to submit application and other documents by 13.00 Feb. 27 to partake in the tender. Tender bids will be unsealed at 16.00 on the same day.

This project (second phase) costs $105 million, whose 80 million falls on loan of the IDB. Remaining $25 million was commissioned to the Azerbaijani government. The IDB's loan was issued for 15 years with three-year grace period and 5.95% of interest rates. The funds will be allotted in line with leasing mechanism.

Work at the Mingachevir Hydro Power Station was conducted in late 1990s under the first phase. Generators and substations were changed and ground control panel was set under financing of the IDB and the EBRD. Roughly $40 million was spent to this work. Some $12.5 million of this amount was allocated by the Islamic Bank and $21 million - Eurobank.
