Azerbaijan could ensure its security and electricity in the short term and turned from importer to exporter of electricity. Works to upgrade the power grid Nakhchyvan allowed to provide electric power, but also provided an opportunity to start exporting electricity to Turkey, Azerbaijani Industry and Energy Minister Natik Aliyev said on Friday.
Implementation of the Electric Power Project North-South (synchronizing electrical Russia, Azerbaijan and Iran) will significantly increase the export of electricity to Iran, he said.
"Through this project, Azerbaijan has already made big works. In particular, built a high-voltage electricity transmission line Imishli-Parsabad [Azerbaijan-Iran]. Also, transformer stations were built, and I think that soon they will be put into operation," Aliev said.
There is also ongoing on the construction of power lines, Jasper Derbent (Russia - Azerbaijan), the minister said.
